Marissa Alexander was originally charged to 20 years in prison for firing a gunshot in the wall of her home during a confrontation with her husband. Her husband, Rico Gray, a 245-pound Jacksonville truck driver with a history of domestic violence confronted her on August 1, 2010, in an attempt to flee Alexander picked up a handgun and fired as a warning shot.

Now after spending over a 1000 days in jail Alexander has been released on bond until a verdict is reached on her new trial set for March 31, 2014. Alexander will be under house arrest while she awaits the new trial ordered by the 1st District Court of Appeals.
